Compared to Saturday, yesterday was a serious snoozefest. I didn't do anything and didn't venture more than .5 mile from the hotel. Good thing as my feet were killing me. What I did do was in the morning walk over to Walmart for Rockstars and a shirt. I only brought six shirts with me for seven days. I decided if I could find one cheap enough I would buy a 7th shirt. I found one for $11. That works. I also grabbed hair dye for later in the day. For lunch I got flatbread pizza which also served as dinner.
Other than that, I stayed in the hotel playing video games and watching Luther. I know, not very exciting but I didn't feel like two adventures in a row.
I did do my hair in the hotel and it turned out pretty good I think. Made a mess of someone else's bathroom instead of mine for a change. Went to bed around 10. Two more days and I can finally go home. Today is the last of the formal classes so this day should go to 5.

I have a splitting sinus headache this morning. The humidity pressure building up outside compounded with the A/C in here is doing a number on me. Hence why I am up at 6 something when I don't have to be.
Yesterday was incredible. I mustered up the courage to head into the city alone. Started out by just hanging out at the hotel because I didn't want to get into the city too early. Nothing would be open yet. There's a driver who works out of the hotel and I had talked to him earlier in the week about driving me into the city. We left around 9:40. The drive in was even fun. Went through the Lincoln Tunnel, down Madison Ave, and then on to 5th and 82nd right in Central Park to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I got there a little after opening, around 10:10. I walked right in and bought a ticket. Their ticket prices are cool - they let you pay what you can afford with a recommended 'donation' of $25. I paid the full amount. You get a little sticker to wear all day because the place is so big that you go in and out of wings. The security (which is everywhere) needs to see that sticker to make sure you have paid at least something to be there. I asked the docent if you really could pay what you want and he told me their goal is to make the art accessible to anyone at any income level and yes, I could have given him a dollar if I wanted. Imagine being a kid living in that area and wanting to go every day. You could come up with $1 and spend the day in the museum. And let me tell you, what a museum it is.
I started with the Ancient Greece and Rome exhibit. I saw statues and armor and housewares that were from the 4th c BC. 2500 year old stuff. Some stuff was from 5th and 6th c BC. Amazing. Preserved perfectly. Some of the jewelry looked like it could be bought today. From there I was in the Oceana exhibit showing tribal art, weaponry, and boats from the 1700s through the 1960s. Some of these tribes never changed until the white man came in the 60s.
Off that area I started getting into paintings. Here's where I was blown away. For the next hour I saw paintings from Picasso, Renoir, Lautrec, Van Gogh, Matisse, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Rubens, El Greco, and many more. These are the pieces you hear about but never expect to be in the presence of in your life. I was just humbled. There was a 1930s section of household items as well as art. I tell ya, if left to my own devices, I would totally decorate a house in 1930s art deco. It still looks 'futuristic' and the lines are so clean. I loved the tea set and radio and oh my. Headed upstairs to the modern abstract gallery. Some cool stuff. Frankly some dumb stuff too, but hey, art is art. At that point I was hungry and overwhelmed and found the cafeteria. Overpriced, horrible food, but it is what it is. I had a hot dog with fries and a cupcake. Headed back up and found my self in Medieval Art, followed by a Faberge exhibit. Then somehow I ended up in All Things Hungary. Only one side done too at this stage. I headed to the other side where I was in Egypt staring at 4000 year old hieroglyphics. Um. Wow. They also have a partially recreated tomb which you can walk through. Up from that section was a special exhibit on China and Fashion. Original couture from Chanel, Dior, Lagerfeld, McQueen, Galliano, and St Laurent. I was texting the kid and telling her about it and she was so jealous.
Side note, today she leaves for burning man. 8 days in the desert. You go kid, have fun.
The last section I was in was the American Wing. Honestly the most boring. Paintings of old rich white dudes mostly. The only one which impressed me was the iconic Washington Crossing the Delaware. That thing is HUGE. Like 20+ feet long and 10 feet high. HUGE. Passed through a 1800s western bronze gallery, and decided enough. It was about 1pm at that point. I hit the gift shop where I got B a canvas bag with the Met logo and a cat, a sketchbook for the kid, and a notebook for me for work.
Now came the big adventure. Getting back to NJ. My goal was the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 8th and 42nd. Remember, I am at 5th and 82nd. 40 blocks down and three over. Let's do it! I started walking and as a result of walking I got to see - a lot of Central Park, Carnegie Hall, part of Times Square, Broadway, and a lot of people. Too many people to be honest. But I did it. 2.7 miles later I did it. New York Port Authority Bus Terminal. The size of an airport with more levels.
Only took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to buy a ticket and find my station gate. I was on the bus and headed back. The ticket cost a whopping $4. Suck it driver! Of course I had a screaming baby next to me the whole time so there is that. Kind of sucked. I made it back to the hotel and was so exhausted I took a nap.
In between all this, B finally woke up. She was pissy because one of our friends was supposed to do lunch but then he sends her a message at 9 seeing if she wants to do brunch. Since she was asleep he went back home. She was pissed because he never responded after letting her know this and she cleaned an impossible to clean house for him.
I had dinner in my room around 6, watched a 'new' show called Luther, played a little Diablo (patch 2.3 is down with a new area), and went to bed around 11pm.
What a day.
In comparison, today's adventure is a walk to Walmart, followed by a walk to Kohl's. Whee! Soon enough I can go home.

Woke up on my own this morning and it was wonderful. No alarms, no noise, no obligations. One advantage to being on the road on a weekend.
Yesterday was rough again for my users. Not quite as bas as Thursday but a few of them struggled. They made it through and we finished up around 4:15. Every day they have been bringing in lunch for us which has been nice and made eating easy for me. No scrambling around looking for a place to eat, no additional cost, no feeling bad for spending money. Point is yesterday was pizza. I fucking hate NY pizza. The concept of pizza being thin and greasy just doesn't work for me. I like a nice thick cornmeal type of pizza with lots of toppings and cheese. No more than 20 minutes after eating it, I was plagued by heartburn. I knew it was going to happen too but since I didn't want to have to worry about eating, I hate the shitty pizza. Of course all of my students swore up and down that there's better pizza in NY, which I am sure there is, but ugh.
Got back to the hotel around 4:30, relaxed for a little bit, then at 6 went over to Chili's for dinner. I don't really like Chili's but it's close and I haven't eaten there yet. I don't want to repeat dinners if I can help it. Yeah I am weird like that. Got back to the room around 7, watched the second season on Yonderland, went to bed around 10:30.
I am off to the city today. I decided I am going to go into the city and at least see the Met. Nothing else, just one thing to get me out of here for the day. Let's see how that goes.

Fucking overslept again. I hate time changes. I woke up 45 minutes before my alarm and decided it was too early to get up only to fuck up and sleep 30 minutes past it. Ugh. Shit way to start the day. Plus I am stressing already about everything I need to do next week when I get home in the whopping 36 hours I will have before the movers arrive. Lovely way to start the morning.
Yesterday was a slightly stressful day. We finished up the part from Wednesday we didn't get through and then I pushed them through the expert class. Realistically 4 out of 16 were even mentally close to being ready for an expert class but we got through it. Finished up around 4 and was back at the hotel at 4:30.
Went to Outback for dinner, then went to walmart for rockstars and snacks. Back in my room by 7. Been watching Yonderland, a BBC show which is pretty amusing. I just learned that Mr Robot won't air until 9/2 because of the killings that happened. I don't know if I agree with this or not, but whatever.
Went to bed around 10. Nothing exciting. Almost done here and then I can stress out at home.

Yesterday was rough. As I expected I lost a good chunk of the class with the advanced topics. God only knows how we're going to get through the expert topics today. I have low expectations for how well they do. But it was pretty frustrating yesterday. Plus there are a few people in class who refuse to stop doing their other work and then ask me questions. I fucking hate that. Either pay attention or leave. I don't have time for your shit. It was so bad we didn't even finish the last chapter of the class because they were all brain dead come 4pm and I said screw it, we will do it first thing tomorrow instead. That made them happy at least.
I hung out at the office for another hour because one of the students wanted to take me to his brother-in-laws restaurant for dinner. We headed out around 5 and drove into Montclair NJ. The place was great. It's a pay what you want place which is a weird concept to me, but apparently it works. He basically makes you order 1-2 dishes at a time and you can't order more until your done with those. At the end they ask for 8-10 per dish. They're all tapas size portions, almost tasting menu size, and I had four dishes plus dessert. A couple of them were meh, but a couple were beautiful. Like the whipped ricotta with honey and almonds for dessert. That was incredible. I picked us up a bottle of wine from the liquor store across the street as the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license. Turns out they are very stringent with those in NJ and a lot of places do bring your own type of service.
Got back to the hotel around 8. It was packed. There's something going on at the convention center next door and it's a mad house here. Ugh. I hid in my room and went to bed around 10. Two more days and I get a weekend. Here. Joy.

Two days down, seven to go. Went until about 4:30 again yesterday. Finished exactly when I wanted us too. This group is doing well. For the most part they are sharper than I expected given the larger number of people in the room. There's one who is paying zero attention but she is also not being a distraction either so I have pretty much given up on her. If she gets stuck it's her own damn fault.
After class came back to the hotel, walked over to chipotle, ate dinner in my room, watched some netflix, went to bed.
Living the dream.

At least I didn't oversleep this morning. I also have almost 3 hours until I have to catch the shuttle. I think I am doing better this morning.
Yesterday started off with me being in full blown panic mode because I got up so late. I went downstairs right away and asked how long it would take to get a cab. I was told there was a shuttle that leaves at 10 and 40 after each hour and that my destination would take less than three minutes to get to. Okay. Feeling much better.
Went back down at 7:30 for the 7:40 shuttle and since I was the only one we left early. I arrived at the client at 7:35. Okay. Stress level down. Then I saw the room I will be in for the next week. Sigh. Stress level back up. No mouse. No manual for me. Layout sucks. Spent 45 minutes getting everything configured the way I need it.
Full class of 16. We did okay yesterday. First day and we got through everything we needed to get through. The class is made up of folks from all over the world and there were some language barriers with some of the people. Especially a couple of the people from Japan. I can't quite understand what they are saying but I am trying. Plus some of the names are impossible for me to say. I will make it through though. I always do.
Finished up at 4:30 and got a ride back. I should be okay with this setup all week - shuttle in the morning, ride back at night. Got back to the hotel around 5 and walked over to Red Robin for dinner. Back in the hotel at six. Watched some TV, caught up on email, and went to bed at 9:30. The air in this room is giving me a headache and I was tired as hell from the changes.
I anticipate a similar day today with nothing exciting. Back at home, B did some packing, the kid is stressing out about life, and my coworkers are there usual annoying selves. In other words, all is normal.

And of course on day one I oversleep. I fucking hat time changes like this. Throws me off so bad on the first day.
Yesterday was 14 hours of travel. First flight not bad. Had an upgrade and got to relax. Although the guy next to me was a real pain in the ass. The in flight entertainment thing wasn't working and he was being annoying about it making them reboot it every five minutes. He was a dumbass. Had a 2.5 hour layover in Dallas, and unfortunately was 18th on the upgrade list for my flight to Newark. I was stuk in coach, next to a baby. However, that baby behaved better than many an adult I have seen. Kudos to her and her parents. Landed, car arrived, got to the hotel around 7EST. Unpacked, went to Walmart, grabbed a salad, ironed, and passed out around 11.
Day one about to begin. Deciding if I am going to walk, or take a cab.

It's Sunday technically and that's all that counts.
Did a lot yesterday morning but not much after. Checked in for my flight, checked into the hotel, went to the store, called PG&E, called eRenters, called for car service for tonight, did cat litter, emptied garbage, canceled a magazine, packed, and a bunch of other little things all before 9am. Napped around noon. Played some video games, read, and waited.
A friend came over around 7:30 and we went out for sushi. She is driving me to the airport in an hour. From there, I will spend from 2am until 4:45am waiting in the airport.
Let the next 10 days of hell begin.

Nothing like being up at 4:45 on a Saturday. Whee. I anticipate a lot of this in the next few days. Once we have moved, I plan on treating myself to one day sleeping until 8 or 9 just because. Sigh. The dreams of an old man. To sleep, perchance to dream.
Yesterday was interesting. No other word for it. I had one student on my class. I was supposed to be teaching an advanced report development class but when we started after a few questions I realized that this person shouldn't be in an advanced class. Turns out her boss signed her up for it and thought it was a different class than it was. We switched gears twenty minutes into it and instead I taught her the beginner class. Lucky for her she was the only student and I could change on the fly like that. One advantage to the class being online. We finished up around 1 (the other advantage to a single student class) and I took a little nap. The kid came over around 4 to hang out with us. Originally she was supposed to come over tonight but couldn't get her shift changed. If she had come over tonight we were going to leave around 1am for her to drop me off at the airport on the way home. She got confused and ended up bringing her stuff to spend the night last night. No big deal just threw us all off.
She got pulled over Thursday night by a bored cop who hassled her about a broken brake light. She was freaking out about it and when she got her we went and took a light. Turns out her center brake light has three bulbs and ONE was out. That was a cop who was being a dick. Because she technically was not breaking the law. We took a picture and she plans on sending it in to the police department as harassment.
We went out to dinner together, fixed the one bulb that was out, and came back to watch some TV. Like me, her new job has her up at the crack of dawn and by 10 she was asleep on our floor. B and I stayed up a little while longer watching Project Runway. I went to be around 10:30.
Today I have to check in for my flight, pack, and then a friend is coming over tonight. She will be driving me to the airport around 1am. The journey to NJ begins in less than 24 hours. Such joy.

I'm awake, I swear. JFC I can't keep my eyes open this morning. I need like another 2-3 hours of sleep minimum. Sigh. I will sleep when I am dead. Maybe. I am sure there will be some crisis that needs me even then.
This morning's crisis was waking up to an email from the kid. She was pulled over on the way to work this morning at 4 because of a broken brake light and couldn't find proof of insurance. The insurance is totally up to date but she couldn't find the card. I just emailed her a copy of the card which should reduce her stress, but she also needs the light taken care of. These are the things I worry about when we move.
Yesterday was a bit stressful for sure. B's anxiety about everything was at a fever pitch and between that and work emails and bills and stressing about the move it was too much for me. I just got so frustrated. I need a break. I can't wait until like October or November when things will be back in more of a regular groove. The last year or so has been just one thing after another. Nothing major but so many little things it eats at me.
We ran a couple of errands yesterday including having B's ring and bracelet serviced. She has a lifetime warranty on both of them and they have to be examined every six months for the warranty to be valid. Then the grocery store. Then four loads of laundry. Then cleaning out everyone of my bags to ready them for next week. Just so many little things.
Ah, but that's life isn't it? A million little things.
I did manage to get all my new pins on the pin board magically. That took some rearranging for sure.
Watched some TV and I tried to go to bed early and managed to be in bed by 10 which isn't horrible. Given I only had 2 hours of sleep the prior day, I was hoping for more, but I take what I can get.
I have one student today. This is going to suck ass.

We're home. Got home around 2. Slept from 3:30 until 6:30. Obviously I will need a nap later today. But we didn't want to sit in any traffic so we left around 9. Easier than leaving later and being sleepy or hitting morning commute time.
Had a very productive work day for my third day. Managed to solve a major issue from Tuesday and left the client extremely happy with the solution we implemented. They even took me out for a nice sushi lunch and brought cupcakes in for the afternoon, including a cupcake for B for being in the hotel all week. Finished up with them around 4 and headed back to the hotel.
During the day I also booked all of my next trips. So I have NJ next week for 10 days (leave Sunday), then I have Eden Prairie MN from 9/21 - 9/25, then I go back to this client 11/7 - 11/11. Whee. The upside is this should be enough to push me over the edge I need to have another year of Gold on American. I hit Diamond at Hilton already, but I have been stressing about the airline. I am very close but not close enough. These three trips should do it.
When I got back to the hotel, spent about 45 minutes packing as much up as possible then went down to the restaurant for dinner. Nothing fancy. I had a turkey burger and B had a wrap. Went back up and slept from 6:30 until 8. From there it was packing up and leaving.
The drive was okay. Some traffic coming out of Pasadena, but nothing horrible. B stayed awake the whole time which helped immensely.
Non-related thoughts:
I have been feeling pretty good lately. Stressed out due to the move, but otherwise positive about things. I feel this move is a really good step in a positive direction and it's helping my mental state. I am sure I will be depressed this time next week after being alone in NJ but at least I will know why I am blue. Right now though I am going to enjoy feeling okay.

Not an extremely exciting day yesterday. I worked from 8 until 5, we went to dinner at PF Chang's (it was awful), came back, watched TV, went to bed. That honestly was the extent of the day.
The best part of the day was lunch. I had a waffle with cookie butter and ice cream. Oh yeah I did. It was awesome. How sad is my life that the highlight is having a waffle for lunch? Sigh.
I am ready to go home. I want to see our kitties. I want to sleep in my own bed. I only get a few days at home so I am going to enjoy them. We are going to leave here around 11 or so to miss traffic so we should be home by 4am. Sleep for a little while, then enjoy my day at home. One whole day to myself. Yay me.

Having trouble waking up this morning. Could use another hour or two.
Yesterday was a pretty decent day for me but a little rough for B. She does not like this hotel. Too much of a business hotel with nowhere for her to feel comfortable hanging out. She doesn't like the lobby area, it's way too hot for her to be outside in the courtyard, and the room is feeling claustrophobic to her. I would say 'this is why you should stay home' but in this case she didn't have a choice. Because of the D23 overlap, there wasn't much that could be done. I really think she would be feeling better if it wasn't 102 outside. I am so done with it.
On the way to the office yesterday I made the mistake of walking thinking, oh it won't be so bad in the morning. I nearly died. Like dead on the street. I had to sit in the lobby for two minutes and collect myself before I could ever talk to the security people. Dear god I was dying.
The day went okay for me. We got through things faster than expected which was a fear I had from the beginning. One of the things they wanted to work on could have taken me one hour or one week and I just didn't know until we dove into it. It took me about 6 hours to figure out a solution which isn't bad, but we still have two days to go. I am not sure how today is going to go.
After work, I walked back and surprisingly the afternoon was nicer. Go figure. B wanted out so we walked to Target a couple of blocks away, then on the way back I decided to treat her and we went to Roy's for dinner. I haven't been in a Roy's in years but man did it deliver. She had the most beautiful pork chop, I had the trio of fish (opah, mahi, and salmon), and we both had glorious desserts. That put her in a better mood.
We got back to the hotel and she took a bath and we relaxed. She watched some TV on her laptop, I did some other work for the upcoming Jersey trip, and then I went to bed around 10:30.
Two more days and we can go home.

Not as exciting yesterday as Saturday, that's for sure. We took our time getting up in the morning as we weren't going home, but instead to another hotel 40 miles away. Had breakfast, then checked out and headed back to the parks to kill some time. Only problem? It was 104 and just heavy heat. Not just hot, but weight you down hot. Neither of us could take it. We did some shopping and that was it. We were out. Per the GPS it was expected to take us 51 minutes to get where we needed to be but in reality it took 25. Go figure.
Got to the new hotel around 12:30 and luckily our room was ready. Or so they said. Some issues with the room including no desk chair and someone's snot on the shower curtain. Lovely. The real kicker though was not once, but TWICE housekeeping entered without knocking and waiting. The second time was worse because I was coming out of the shower and B was asleep. I chewed them out for that. Ended up getting $50 towards dinner. Suck it!
As for food, we ordered room service for lunch, after which B fell asleep for a while. I tried to go for a walk to the store and while I made it there and back, I did think I was dying on the way back. I am so done with this fucking weather. I want cold for a while. Is that too much to ask? How about some nice 75 degree shit please? When I got back is when I took above mentioned shower. After the door incident I was too paranoid to sleep myself and just messed around on here.
Around 7 we went down and had dinner. Dinner was great. We had salads and picked on appetizers and it was perfect. Came back up, relaxed, and I fell asleep around 10. B stayed up writing for a while.
Today is day one onsite. I have to walk there this morning. Wish me luck.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DAY YESTERDAY! I have never experienced anything like it before and I can't wait until next year to experience it again.
Got up around 5:30. Woke B up around 6:45. We went down, had breakfast, then came back up to get ready. For me that meant spending an hour covering my face, head, and arms in red makeup. Got dressed and we walked over to the convention center around 8:45. That was probably our only 'mistake' of the day. We should have left for the convention center earlier. Because when we got there, the D23 Gold Member line (which we are) was all the way around the building, down the street, and heading down Katella. That means it was fucking long. And it was already hot out. Like direct sun dying hot. B almost left. We got in line at 9:25 and we were inside at 10:02. Not horrible, but a real challenge in the sun, that's for sure. You know what would have been worse? General Admission tickets. They had to wait until two things happened before they could get in - either 10am OR all of us D23 members were in first. Guess which one happened first? There was still a GA line at 1:30pm trying to get in.
The show was incredible. Once we were in, B relaxed a bit. Luckily one of the first things we saw was Ben Savage and the cast of Girl Meets World. That made her excited. We then saw Christy Romano Carlson (Ren Stevens), Sean Astin, and Corey Feldman. This all made her very happy. We then met two artists we have both followed on Tumblr for a long time - Amy Mebberson and James Silvani. We ended up buying two of their prints and an on the spot commissioned comic book cover featuring Oswald. Other people seen during the day included Ed Asner(!) and the big one - DICK VAN DYKE! Lastly we ran into another person from Tumblr we love and got many pictures with the best Aurora you will have ever seen. We saw lots of great costumes, people wanted my picture all day and gave me great compliments, and it was just a fun time.
We saw the Pixar booth with all the upcoming movies, an Inside Out exhibit showing the original models and artwork, and all of John Lassiter's Hawaiian shirts. The coolest thing was a wall that said "Thank you D23 Members" and had all our names. I found mine! Before we left we hit the D23 Dreamstore and got B an exclusive purse, all the D23 pins, and a t-shirt for me.
We did eat at some point from a grilled cheese truck which was AWESOME.
Whew! What a day. We got really tired about 2 and took a cab back to the hotel. Best $10 ever. We relaxed, B slept, and around 5:30 we went to Red Robin for dinner. We decided not to go back to the park last night and instead just stay in the room. I ended up falling asleep around 10 and slept until 6:30. Much sleep needed.
Today we are going to check out, head to the park for a little while, then go to Pasadena for my client. We can't check in there until 3, so no rush. It should only take us an hour to get there.
Time to shower.

Big day yesterday. We left the house at 1:00am as planned. B managed to stay awake until almost 4 which helped me get through some of the really rough patches of the trip. We rolled into town about 6:20 and went to breakfast at IHOP. They piss me off sometimes. The food is better than Denny's but it's not THAT good. Yet their prices are way higher than I would pay for eggs at some fancy places. It's like "we know we're the only ones around open 24 hours and we're gonna milk that fact". Fuckers.
After breakfast we hit the parking lot. You can tell the convention is in full swing because for the first time, at 7:15am I sat in a line to get into the parking lot. It was full before midday. And I know they were all going across the street to the convention center because there were only four other people on the shuttle with us going to the park. You see, we opted for the one day D23 passes, not the full three days. We figured since we aren't 'con' people, all three days would have been too much. One solid day is more appropriate for our needs.
We had a good day at the parks. Went on a couple of rides, did some shopping, left around 1. We then went to Target to get some stuff including what I am wearing today. I am going as Anger from Inside Out. B is wearing an Iron Man dress as she is too self-conscious to fully plunge into a cosplay situation. But I found a white shirt, brown pants, and a grey tie. We got to the hotel about 1:30 and they checked us in. Unpack, organize, nap time. Slept until about 5:40.
Around 6 we went to Bubba Gump's for dinner. We love that place. We're going to miss it. None in OR or WA. 4 in Malaysia, but none in the NW. Whatever. Had a great dinner, head back to the hotel, and waited for a friend to call. She was picking up some fabric paint for me at WalMart to finish off my costume. She arrived around 9ish and B helped me by painting the tie.
Finally crawled into bed around 11.
Long busy day and today is going to be even more exciting.

It's after midnight so there. Ha.
Finished up class. Two of the students were SO disruptive I had to let my boss know. They just don't belong on the class. Turns out they also disrupted my co-workers class with similar antics (no computer skills, too many irrelevant questions, falling behind due to not paying attention). I also caught them screen capping my class into word at one point. Which is in violation of our class agreements.
After class I went to the store to get food for dinner. B slept from 4-7, I slept from 8-11:30. We are all packed and about to hit the road in an hour.
D23 and then client, here we come!

Made it through day 2 of class without losing my shit which given how lost a few of my students were is a fucking miracle. At first it looked like only one of them was going to fall behind but by the middle of the day I could tell that a couple more were well out of their comfort zone and were proving to be a pain. I ended up at the end of the day having to redo the models on 6 of the 9 machines. Three of them were completely fucked up, the other three just a little messed up. Only 1/3 of my class should ever be touching this tool. I ended up working until almost 4:30 trying to clean up their messes.
While I was teaching B took the car into the shop for me. I have been getting some vibration when braking at speeds over 65 mph. Since we are about to drive some decent distances, I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything life threatening. It is slightly warped rotors and per their guy, it's annoying and kind of scary but not dangerous. We still have over 50% brakes left and it didn't make sense to do anything about the rotors until we decide to do the entire brake job. Okay. At least we had it checked out and that made me feel better.
Had burritos for dinner which is giving me serious acid right now. I need to eat bland the next few days and let things settle in my stomach. When we got back from dinner we watched some TV and B managed to pack up her entire closet. One more thing off the checklist.
We also got the final lease papers for our new place and I took care of getting us a new renter's policy. Next week I start making address changes across the board. As of 8/18 we technically have the new place so I am going to spend one night next week canceling current services, sending bills to the new address, etc.
Tonight we leave for Disneyland and D23 this weekend. Starting tonight, the whirlwind begins. Things won't settle until 9/5. Three weeks of crazy.
Bring it.

Taught my group yesterday. 9 students. Only one seems to be a little behind the rest of the group. Everyone else is doing fine. Luckily the one who is a little behind has a co-worker in the same room with her to help keep her up with the material. She has yet to fall behind, which is good. This is a very challenging class and if I lose someone on day one, they're usually screwed come day 3. I am glad this one is keeping up.
I was kind of pissed off at B yesterday but only because I needed her to do something and she completely forgot she needed to take care of something for us. She stayed up until 6am writing yesterday and basically went to bed when I started class. It really doesn't matter if she sleeps while I am teaching but I needed her to take the car into the shop. She didn't wake up until 2pm which is way too late to bring the car in. I know logically it didn't matter of she slept all day as we weren't spending time together regardless, it was more that she forgot I needed her to take care of things. That's what frustrated me the most. Of course there is also some envy involved. I wish I could stay up all night not answering to anyone and sleep until 2 in the afternoon, but some of us have responsibilities. I managed to talk through it with her without really losing my cool which was good. She promised me that she would go to bed at a decent time as I would wake her up by 10 at the latest today to get the car into the shop. Compromise reached. Well done all around.
We watched a couple of movies together - Wonder Woman and Superman/Batman - Public Enemies. She is actually really enjoying these movies and I am happy to share watching them with her. I watched one more during the day while teaching (on breaks of course) - Justice League New Frontier. These movies are very well done and worth the watch. Very adult oriented and well written, acted, and great plots. Kudos to WB for making such great stuff.
B made a meatloaf for dinner which turned out really well. After dinner I went and started packing for this weekend. This is going to be a weird weekend. While we are looking forward to D23, it's just going to be crazy. Went to bed around 11 and slept pretty good over all.
Day 2 of class. Nothing planned for tonight.

All the 7s today. Slept fairly well last night. Had some very bizarre dreams. Don't remember any of them clearly, but I don't remember them being bad, just odd.
I did very little yesterday unfortunately. My boss never got back to me on some stuff so I spent the whole day waiting essentially. Thank goodness I have a solid three days the rest of the week, Friday off, and then all of next week already scheduled. I hate downtime.
How did I spend my day? Completing my collection of DC Universe Animated Movies. I now have all 24. I also got all 5 season of The Batman from 2004. Yeah, real productive use of my day, I know.
In the afternoon, B was craving french onion soup and for dinner we found the one small little bistro in town that serves it. Nice little place. A little pricey for the area and quality of food, but good overall.
Came back home, and I don't remember what we did to be honest. I know she watched Teen Wolf. I guess we just kind of didn't do anything. We did look up the calendar of events for where we are moving and the weekend we get there it's labor day weekend and there will be a shit ton of things going on. We're both looking forward to that.
Time to get prepped for class.

Having some crazy bowel issues this morning. Carried over from yesterday. Now I remember why I don't drink beer. Ugh.
VERY lazy day yesterday. My big accomplishment was finishing Lego Jurassic World. 100% complete! All trophies and achievements! It's always nice to finish a game. It happens so rarely these days that you can get through a video game and complete everything that there's a certain satisfaction in it. I mean you can play a game and get through the main story line, but to actually *finish* and get every quest, every side quest, every trophy, well that's a big deal. I can count on one hand the number of games I have ever finished as thoroughly. Three of them would be Lego games ironically.
We did some household kind of things too yesterday - laundry, dishes, cleaning. You know, basic stuff. B's hangover was definitely worse than mine and she moved liked a sloth. Given how infrequently she drinks, I let her have the day without any comment. I didn't see any reason to be a jerk about it.
This week I have a class Tues - Thurs and then we leave for Anaheim Thursday night. I have yet to see a class list for this week so I don't know how many students or anything yet. I should get it in the next few hours. Otherwise, today will be a doc day.
Three weeks plus a little more to go before the big day. Excited.

I have a bit of a hangover going on this morning. It could be much much worse but it's not horrible. I also went to bed at 2 and was up at 7 so if I gave it a little more sleep, I would probably be feeling okay. And while I feel a little bloated this morning and have some nasty gas, I made the smart decision to stick with beer and only one type of beer last night. No shots, no hard liquor. I am grateful this morning for that choice. B on the other hand decided she for once WOULD drink and while I tried to keep her to one thing, she decided she would be doing shots all night. I managed to keep her to blueberry flavored vodka, but I am sure her head is going to be doing the Watusi when she gets up. The party was a ROARING success in my mind. We had 39 people come out to wish us well. There was one particular moment that stands out for me - remember 5.5 years ago when I wrote that if just one person asks me to stay I wouldn't move? Yeah, no one did back then. But last night? At least three people flat out said to me "don't go". I can't convey how much that means to me. Not only were there almost 40 people who came out for us, but they truly will miss us and don't want us to go. The only way I managed not to lose it and break down last night was by pretending the party wasn't what it was. I had to just focus on seeing everyone and not thinking how it was possibly the last time I would see some of them.
I also managed to get quite a bit accomplished during the day. I got everything on the desk done that I wanted, the bathroom as planned, and some kitchen stuff. I feel okay leaving next week with the place the way it is right now. I can't do much more until we get closer to the day.
Other than the party and packing, not much else happened yesterday. Some friends came over during the day to wish us well and I left them with a bunch of Coca-Cola stuff that I wanted to see go to a good home. They too will miss us.
Oh the one other thing I did manage to get done yesterday was reconfiguring all the computers to be on the UPS. Right now I have this machine, the router, the modem, and the external HDDs on the UPS. It's putting about an 8% load on the unit which is nothing. If I lost power right now, I would be good for at least an hour if not 90 minutes.
Today is going to be nursing B's hangover most likely and relaxing. We are down to 25 days until we move and the next big adventure begins!

I tried to sleep in this morning, I really did. I woke up at 4 when I heard B coming to bed and since I had just gone to bed at midnight, I forced myself back to sleep. I woke up again at 5 and this time I couldn't do it. I was awake as I started thinking about everything I want to get accomplished today before our party tonight. Oh well.
Yesterday was okay. Taught until about 2:30. Had a nice small group and was able to tailor the class to their needs. It was nice as they were both from the same company and questions from one were applicable to the other. I didn't feel like anyone was not interested in the questions. When I was done, I napped for a little while. When I got up, played some video games and then B and I went out for dinner around 7. After dinner we did some shopping at the crapmart and got home around 9:30.
I cut the tip of my thumb the other night and typing is annoying right now. I need to stop hitting the space bar with my thumb as it hurts. Ow.
We relaxed when we got back home for a while and then I started doing some packing. As a result I opened a fire safe box that has been sitting in the closet forever. It belonged to my grandfather and it's just gone from move to move without me really looking in it. Inside there are a bunch of old paper monies and coins. I started doing some research and while none of them were especially valuable (most are common denominations and circulated) almost all of it is worth more than face value. There's probably $400 - $500 value in there. I decided that today I am going to make a list of it all and send the list to a couple of dealers to see what they say in return. Who knows, it would be better to even have a little bit of extra cash than a box that's doing me no good. There's no sentimental attachment for me so why keep it around.
That's about it for yesterday. Today is desk breakdown day, final bathroom cabinets, trim down the remaining kitchen stuff, and B's closet. If we get all that done this weekend we will be sitting pretty for the 4th. On top of all that we will go out around 4 for our party. I am looking forward to seeing everyone as it will be a while until I see some of them again. Should be a fun night.

HA! You all thought I was crazy buying a UPS? WELL HA! Lats night apparently around 1am there were multiple brownouts followed by a full 2 minutes of power outage. Guess whose machines were just fine? That's right bitches! Well okay, the ones I managed to put on the UPS were fine. But it was definitely easier recovering this morning from it because only one machine needed resetting. The other two were humming away like no problem. Now, I need to read the manual and figure out how to clear the events off the UPS.
Taught class all day until 4:15. My group was pretty happy it seemed. I also got some feedback from a prior student in an email. They want me to come out and show them out to build their models thanks to being in my class. Could be a nice gig if it fits into my schedule. Plus more miles and points. It would be in Colorado which is a nice place to visit as long as there's no snow. It would be nice to do a gig like that because it would be a break from the regular teaching I do. Actually do some implementation and not just theory.
After class I played some video games. Made some polenta with bacon and mushrooms for dinner. I wasn't really that hungry and I am trying to just go through everything in the fridge. It's going to make for some interesting dinners in the next week. We only have six days before we go out of town and I am trying to avoid a big grocery trip. We need to trim down as much as possible from the fridge and pantry in the next few weeks.
Went to bed around 10. Nothing exciting. B just went to bed when I got up. She was dealing with the power outage and cat vomit. Fun.
One more class today, smaller group. I should finish around 1:30 or 2 and then I am done. Party tomorrow plus breaking down the desk and some other random packing. I want by Monday morning to be lean - two plates, two forks kind of situation. It's going to be a long weekend. I can feel it already.

Class started seriously late yesterday. I was already out of whack and then these people didn't bother showing up until almost 9. Not all of them obviously but enough that it disrupted the rest of the students. One person didn't show up at all. What a waste. Who pays $1300 for a class and then doesn't show? Ironically though it seems like it ended up being a good thing I switched because my coworker texted me a couple of times saying how horrible her group was being. One person kept yelling at her for using the word ellipsis and telling her she needs to just say '3 dots'. Then she has four people from Barbados on the class who shouldn't be near computers in general, let alone developers. In that respect I won the student lottery.
Class went until 4, and then I relaxed for a while. Made chicken tortilla soup with quesadillas and a salad for dinner. Watched some TV and went to bed around 11. Nothing exciting. B didn't get up until 1:30 in the afternoon, but whatever. She doesn't need to be up so it's not like it's a big deal. I am not saying anything about her sleep schedule until we move. We have both acknowledged that it's in both of our interests if she gets a job once we move. Let's see how that goes. I don't hold high hopes. Mostly because the area is not the best for unemployment numbers. Instead I will probably push her to take some classes. Anything to get out of the house. I do plan on getting a gym membership when we move. There's one about 2 miles from the new place and it's $13 a month. Even if she chooses not to go, I will. No more excuses. I need to get back down to being skinny again. It's driving me crazy.

I am all out of sorts this morning. My coworker was freaking out about teaching today's class that she had assigned to her and asked me yesterday if we could switch. Sigh. Fine. I was looking forward to doing the one I was assigned because I hadn't done it in a while, but whatever. The only issue is her classes go from 8:30-4:30 instead of my normal time of 7-3. It doesn't sound like much of a difference but it throws my whole schedule out of whack. I have been awake since 4:17 but forced myself to lay there until 5:30. That didn't work out too well. Now I am just awake and annoyed. It's only the next two days and then Friday I am back on my normal schedule with another class.
Yesterday was a frustrating day. I got up in the morning expecting to work on stuff only to find my server had been shut down. We use AWS for our stuff and we try to only have them up as needed and for some reason my boss thought I was done with the server. I wasn't but okay. I decided to get new ink for the printer and do a store pickup which also meant waiting. I ended up going to Target at 9 to wait for Best Buy to open at 10. More annoying is Best Buy doesn't open until 10, but I got an email at 9:30 telling me my order was ready. Gee thanks. While at BB, I decided to pick up a UPS. I have been wanting one since we moved here due to random brownouts that happen here. I am also worried about when we move and the possibility of storms knocking out power. I ended up with the APC BX1500. It's a brick for sure, but a brick that may save me down the road.
Got back and finally talked to my boss about the server issue and the random null pointer exception issues I have been getting. Him and I worked on it on and off the rest of the day. I finished up around 4 or so.
Played some video games, ate dinner, watched tv, went to bed. B went to bed at 4:15 as I was waking up. I don't expect to see her again until noon. Must be nice.
This weekend is stressing me out. It's the last full weekend I have at home to pack before road trips start. I need to get a considerable amount done. I firmed up the movers yesterday and they will be here in 29 days. This weekend I am going to break down the desk, finish up some of the random stuff left, and for the remaining weeks we are home, we're going to be living lean. Two dishes. Two bowls. That kind of thing.
In nine days we are set to go to D23. I should be excited but there's just too much going on right now for me to be even remotely aware of it. Plus we have our going away party this weekend. So much to do and so little time to do it in.

Oddest thing, I woke up this morning to no emails. I usually get one or two in the night but this morning nothing. Made me question if my internet was working, but apparently it is. Weird.
Slept well last night too which is also weird. I know, I am complaining about no emails and sleeping well. First world white whine problems.
I spent all day yesterday dealing with a server configuration that wasn't cooperating. All this time I have been spending on updating a particular class is out the window because the server isn't setup right and if you try to do the demos the way I have them, it blows up. I have to figure out today how to compensate for that. What a nightmare. Days of work and time lost. I also had a conference call with the folks I am training in two weeks because they are super paranoid about everything and wanted to review for the fifteenth time the agenda and some back end stuff they need to complete before I arrive. It was a long day.
B's family pissed me off last night. They are having some reunion this weekend, which we obviously can't attend but they had to text her last night giving her the guilt trip of the century. I just don't understand family sometimes I guess. I would have told them to go to hell but instead B starts doing this arts and crafts project to send them cardboard 'Flat Stanley' replicas of us for the party. Whatever. But it just irked me because she basically dropped everything to work on these things because they told her to. Like I said, I don't understand family.
Made a pork roast for dinner, played some video games, went to bed. It was a Monday.

One month to go. In one month a group of people is going to show up here, put our lives inside a metal box, and move it 700 miles. What a concept. I am excited, scared, and apathetic all at the same time. Apathetic because on one hand, it's just another move. I have lived so many places in my life that it's kind of banal at this point that I am moving. But this is the first time out of state which does bring some excitement to the process. I am still feeling overwhelmed by how much there is left to pack, but not too bad at this point. We've managed to get the majority of things done that I feel it is manageable in the time left. Ask me how I am feeling in three weeks. Then the stress will probably be back.
Did laundry and cleaned house as much as possible with all the boxes. That's the part I am definitely looking forward to when we move. Since we signed a 24 month lease, we will have a decent amount of time with no boxes. It feels like out of the 12 months we have lived here, at least 3 or 4 were spent with boxes of some type. This place has never felt permanent in that respect. I am hoping that changes.
Played some video games, made steaks for dinner, and watched the series finale of Humans. Shows like that really exemplify why I like BBC shows over US shows. So well written and thought out. With a British show you never know at the end if everyone will die or if nothing will get resolved. It could go either way. Humans did not disappoint in that regard.
Went to bed around 10:30. Slept fitfully for some reason. Probably just the heat which still has yet to break. It has been in the high 90s/low 100s for so long now you'd think we were in AZ. Tiresome.
That's about it. I have three days of classes this week including a full 12 students on Wed/Thurs. It's a beginner class too which will be a handful but it's worth over $15k to the company. August is already shaping up to be a solid month towards another good bonus in October. If that happens, I will put a large chunk towards some bills.
Oh, I did one other thing yesterday. I drove to the Jeep dealer while they were still closed to look at Wranglers. B has her heart set on a Jeep and while I am okay with it, there are way too many models and I wanted to see what the differences were. Out of the four I saw on the lot, 2 were somewhat acceptable feature wise and only one had everything I would accept. The problem? $50,000. I am not exaggerating. It was $50k for a Jeep. That's just insane. It's bad enough cars cost what they do but that much for a Jeep? Um, no. I just don't get why they are that high. Crazy.
I might go back and drive it just to see why the hell it's so expensive, but not today. Today is documentation and bathroom packing. Whee.

Fuck it's already hot in here. It's 78 degrees at 5:39am in this stupid place. I can't wait until I can just open a window. Soon.
Got most of my goals accomplished yesterday. Finished the one big area of the kitchen that I wanted to take care of, my dresser is done, the nightstand is done, the office closet is done, and the patio is mostly done. I started on the laundry room late last night at least pulling stuff out but it needs to be packed today. I have a list for next weekend which includes breaking down my desk. I am going to work off a folding table for a few days. It will be rough but doable. As soon as the desk is apart it will really feel like I am ready.
Packing was the primary goal of yesterday. I also did some grocery shopping early in the morning. Got that out of the way. Made pork chops for dinner. And made a german chocolate cake because B was craving one. Cooking, cleaning, shopping, and packing. That's my whole day summarized in one sentence.
We had thought about going to the show last night, but not only was I too tired, I didn't want to be pissed off. It felt like they were making a big deal out of it being some other people's last show and I still feel cheated from our show last month. If these people had more done for them than we had I was going to be upset and the thought of driving for an hour plus just to be angry didn't sit well with me. So we stayed home. Better life decisions.
That's the theme for 2015 so far, isn't it?

Pretty quiet day. I worked on my docs until about 1 and then we went to the movies. I was kind of sad in the morning but getting out of the house helped. We went and saw Ant-Man. It was alright. It wasn't like this super incredible movie but it was alright and it progressed the MCU story line to the next step which is going to be Civil War. First west coast movie laying the groundwork for West Coast Avengers. Now all we need is Doctor Strange and a half dozen other story lines and boom we will finally have the Infinity Wars. I have those comics. I can pull them out right now and see all the things they have done right with these movies.
After the movie we walked around the mall for a while until it was time to have some dinner. We went to one of our favorite places in town both of us thinking in the back of our minds it may be for the last time. Kind of sad, but not sad enough to make us stay. I feel like it's five years ago when I was trying to decide to leave and no good reasons were keeping me around.
After dinner we came home and some friends pinged us and wanted to know if we wanted to come over and hang out. That was actually kind of fun. We just sat around shooting the breeze until a little after 11 and headed home.
I went to bed around midnight and B around 3. Today's goals are packing the remaining kitchen areas, my closet, nightstand, and office, and the patio. Big goals, but I think I can do it all today. This is my last clean weekend with no obligations to get this stuff done. As much as it will be rough, I can do it.
