Welcome to Texas y'all! Here I am in the middle of nowhere Tejas. Literally everyone I encountered yesterday was either an old white person or a Vaquero. No mistaking where I am this week for sure.
Got to the airport around 4 and it was crazy busy. It looks like Spring Break is finally winding down for everyone and they were all headed home. For some reason my flights were both 100% full. There were only six of us on the first upgrade list, but no one cleared. I was stuck in the squished seat for 4 hours. Couldn't sleep either. My cough is not quite gone and I am sure the people next to me were worried that they were going to catch the plague from me given the cough and sniffling I did the whole trip.
Got to DFW around 11:30 and was excited that my incoming plane was also my outgoing at the same gate. I only had at that point, 30 minutes between flights and was worried about having to get to my next location. That was compounded by the fact that they announced the SkyLink was down right as we landed. DFW without SkyLink? That's a recipe for disaster. So it was nice to know I was getting off and getting right back on. So I thought. My San Antonio flight has 17 people on the upgrade list and once again, no one was being cleared. We ended up being delayed by an hour because of maintenance issues which worried me because I just flew 1600 miles on a plane they decided wasn't good enough to go another hour in the air. That gives me so much confidence. Finally got a new plane at the gate and we got to San Antonio around 3.
My rental car for once is decent. A 2018 Ford Flex Limited with navigation and all the niceties I like in a vehicle. Thank goodness as I still had an hour drive ahead of me. The drive was uneventful. Was like driving the highway down to Disneyland. A lot of cows and stretches of nothing. Got to the hotel around 4:15, checked in, and found a Walmart for supplies for the week.
I was going to have Church's for dinner but they were backed up and it was a 15 minute wait for chicken. Um, no. Your chicken is good, but not that good. Ended up coming back to the hotel and walking to the Cracker Barrel next door. Chicken livers instead. I like chicken livers. I don't care what anyone says.
Got back to the room, ironed, relaxed, and went to bed around 9:30. I got more NyQuil at the store and dear god that is the nastiest stuff on the face of the earth, but it does the job. Knocked me right out and I slept like a log until 4:30.
Day one of five about to commence. 63 people this week, same class, five times. This is going to be a long week.
