Y9 D40

We had a bad night here last night. B spent most of it in the closet. No, seriously. She set herself up a nest in the closet with her tablet and laptop. I was able to block most of it out when I went to bed at 11, but god only knows what time she fell asleep. Why don't the cops do something about this? These are ILLEGAL fireworks being set off in residential areas. Do your damn job. Ugh.

Day started with me having a nice conversation with the kid. She was at the park with her boy. He was running in some race (no bears, I checked. Don't know why he was running then, but whatever) and then she had to work. When B got up we decided to get out of the house and go to the mall. It was a lot less crowded than I had expected. Maybe because it was technically a Tuesday? Or maybe because people were out of town? I don't know, but I wasn't complaining. I enjoyed being able to walk around and not be stressed.

We had all the leftovers last night for dinner. Since we are going out of town today, we wanted to make sure the fridge was as empty as possible. I still need to throw some stuff out this morning. Also take out the garbage and make sure the cat's have food. We're not planning on leaving until 10 so plenty of time.

We did do some research into new routers yesterday. Earlier in the day B was trying to get a signal in the bedroom and was struggling. We started walking around doing speed tests and discovered we have a dead zone in the bedroom. We go from 120mb in the office to 14mb in the bedroom download speed. WTF? Antenna issues? Location? We also realized our router is almost 4 years old. Then we started counting. Just how many items are we connecting these days? More than you might think. 4 desktops, 3 laptops, Apple TV, Alexa, TV, printer, 2 phones, 2 tablets, light controller, and PS4. 17 devices. Which these days is not uncommon. Splitting that bandwidth thin. So I did some research. I think I am going to buy the Netgear Nighthawk X6. Was considering the X10 but way more than I need. I know, I can run Plex directly on the X10, but whatever. Both the X6 and X10 can have the firmware yanked and OpenWRT can be put on there. The X8 is an option but not really. It seems to be this weird model no one talks about. The X6 is $225 but should last us a while. Going to probably pick it up Friday.

Around 7 the insanity started and by 8 B was in the bedroom. Not much else to tell about the night. It sucked, people are stupid, not going to deal with it next year if I can help it.

41 hours until my birthday.
