(Been up for a while. Had to wait to type this so it was actually midnight and officially Friday)

Yay confirmed upgrades on both my flights today. Yay me.

Yesterday went pretty well. We had some network troubles but otherwise we got through everything and finished up around 3:45. Plus the class expressed a great interest in having me come back to do an expert class. That would mean a full week back here in January. As of right now, it's looking like we have at least 2 if not 3 weeks of January already booked. Start the year off hard an heavy.

Got back to the hotel and was greeted by tiny little ants in my bathroom. They were so cute it made it hard for me to be angry. Called the front desk and they offered to move me but since I was only going to be in the room for another 10 hours, meh. They came up and sprayed and I found out later the manager added some bonus points to my account. Cool.

Had ribs and shrimp for dinner while they were taking care of the room, came back, watched some Dominion, packed, and went to bed around 8. Seems early but then again, I am up at 1:30 so I really only have had 5 hours of sleep.

Tried to pay bills this morning but it's not time back home yet and my check isn't in. Sigh.

Time to get wrapped up.

Had a moment of pure terror yesterday morning. I thought I lost my passport. It wasn't in the pocket it was supposed to be in, it wasn't in my pants, it wasn't in the car, it wasn't back at the hotel. Freaking out. Finally found it down the bottom of my bag not where it was supposed to be. I was so stressed for about 30 minutes yesterday morning. Once I found it, things were better.

Got through day 3 of teaching (day 2 for this group) and left around 4:15. Headed back to the hotel. Went to Cracker Barrel for dinner. That was interesting. Talk about down home Americana. Oy. Had the worst chicken and dumplings ever.

Came back to the room, worked on some emails, chatted with B, played some Diablo, went to bed around 10.

Almost done. Almost. Done.

I am still so tired. I also have an eye infection that won't go away, my foot hurts, and I ate too much cheese yesterday.

Not in a good head space today. I need ... I don't know what I need to be honest.

Class went fine yesterday but I did have some stupid shit to deal with. I got chewed out by my work yesterday for basically speaking my mind. On top of the OMG YOU MUST HAVE YOUR INSURANCE STUFF IN NOW shit I have been dealing with, I get an email yesterday morning OH YEAH BTW WE ARE TAKING MONEY OUT OF YOUR CHECKS TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LAST YEAR'S INSURANCE AND THIS YEAR. No fucking warning, no amount, just that it will come out either this check or the next. WTF? This went out to everyone so it's not just me, but it was like really, now? At the end of year? Fuck you. And I said pretty much that to our one person who is 1. leaving and 2. technically the office manager who has been thrust into an HR role. Well that sparked emails from people telling me I need to stop complaining and I should be more polite and I fucking went off on them. I told them straight up to fuck off and that maybe if we had a real HR team who was trained and knew how to write emails and handle shit better this wouldn't have happened. Yeah, they had no comeback for that because they know I am fucking right. Regardless it put me in a shit mood all day and this happened right before lunch. Four more hours pretending like I am doing fine.

Got back to the hotel around 4:30 and sat for a while before going to BJs for dinner. It was okay. It was food. Nothing more nothing less.

Got back around 7, played some Diablo which by the way fucking screams on this laptop. Went to bed around 9:30.

Two more fucking days and I can go home.

There's a concept that women tend to get way better than men - friendship. Especially the whole concept of close friends. Men have friends but we don't see always those close relationships. Yet most of us have that one person in our lives who we truly feel happy for when they succeed, sad when they fail, and angry when they don't get what they deserve. I have such a person and am elated that he is getting what he finally deserves. He's a good person (good being relative. Hell, by my definition, I'm a fucking saint) and has bore the weight of the world for way too long. Something really good happened to him recently and it's brought a spark back that I was afraid was dead. This is good because when the end of the fucking world comes around, I need you thinking sharp motherfucker so we can survive. Right now, it should be about more than just survival. There'll be plenty of time for that later.

Woke up a little later than I wanted yesterday but still fine on time. I had hoped to be up a little earlier so I could check out breakfast in the lobby but as I left it didn't appear like anything I would have wanted anyway. Got to the client around 7:45 and started class at 8:40 by the time everyone had trickled in. I am getting really sick of this shit. I am going to be a dick to the group the next three days. Class STARTS at 8:30, but arrive when you fucking feel like it. Yes, it makes me angry. Class itself went fine, got out of there around 4. Headed back to the hotel and sat until 6:30 when I had a conference call with another client.

In between then I dealt with some serious bullshit - open enrollment. "All papers have to be in by today" - says who? There's no fucking law that says that. I gave everyone in HR and at the insurance company shit about having to be rushed into making a decision and that I was on the road so fuck you and your wanting me to fax things. I also couldn't add B because it would have jacked my insurance from $223 to $800 a fucking month. Um, fuck you? Insurance pisses me off. I remember the day when I paid ZERO out of pocket for a decent plan. If there's one thing that makes me want to go back to a large corporate hell it's that.

After all that I went to a place called Jack Allen's Kitchen. Over priced, but good. I also now have a jar of beets I have to either eat or ship home. I will probably eat them for lunch every day. I had a roasted quail and beet salad followed by chorizo stuffed pork medallions. Was tasty.

Came back, watched some TV, chatted with B and other people, went to bed around 10.

Am I done yet?

Having serious trouble waking up right now. I needed the sleep, that's for sure, but I tossed and turned during the night, dealt with heater issues, and had a rough night in general. Which is causing me to really struggle this morning. I need to leave in about 75 minutes so I need to fix this quickly.

Yesterday was a travel day and not very exciting. Left the house around 2:30, got to the place where I have been leaving my car around 3:20. Had about 30 minutes to kill and talked with my friends. I did learn something really neat while I was waiting for the car. I learned how to clean up my Gmail inbox big time.

See I use labels - a lot. I have tried using the 'inbox' feature and even the app but I don't like their groupings. "Promo", "Social" none of those work for me. Well if you go to the gmail labs tab under settings, there is a new one called 'multiple inboxes'. You can define an inbox which can appear above, below, or to the right of your current, that is based on any valid gmail rule. I ended up using label:xxxxx has:red-star (blue-star,yellow-star, etc) and then archiving the original message. What I ended up with was the cleanest, well grouped mail interface ever. And that was the most exciting thing to happen to me yesterday.

Got my first flight, no issues. Got to DFW and checked the board. There was an earlier flight by 90 minutes close by. Okay, why not. Let's try. I go and get on the standby list and wait. They are up to group 3 when she calls me up. "I don't have anything yet, but if you hold tight I should". No, I don't want to wait. "No, you misunderstand, I will have a 1st class seat if you hold on". Oh. Duh. Okay. So not only was I 90 minutes early, I got my upgrade. Yay me!

When I arrived at Austin since I was early my car wasn't ready and I had to wait in line, but whatever, I was early. Got to the hotel which was dead since it was a Sunday and got all checked in. Caught up on email, tumblr, etc and then went to the steakhouse for dinner. Came back, watched two episodes of Constantine, fell asleep.

Whee.

Nothing like going to bed at 8pm on a Saturday night so you can be up at 1am on a Sunday morning. I have been up at 1am on a Sunday many many times but nothing as exciting as drive to the airport time. That's some serious sarcasm there, isn't it?

So tired.

Left the house once yesterday and that was at 7am to go the grocery store to get cat food. Otherwise I stayed inside all day.  Kind of nice. Packed, hung a mirror, finally hung a painting, played Diablo, watched some TV, and had a mellow day.

No real issues to report. Other than being tired, I am okay. B has been in a funk and it's because of my travel, but I think she is starting to shake it. She needs friends around more than I do and I think that is bugging her too. I am happy with strangers but she needs real friends. We need to work on that next year.

Off to the fucking airport.

Y6 D174

Nothing like being up at 6am on a Saturday. Tomorrow won't be any better unfortunately as tomorrow is a travel day. Which is why I am up at now, to check in for my flight. No upgrades confirmed yet which blows as it's a Sunday flight. You'd think I would have gotten at least one. Whatever.

A quick shout out to my sister and her husband. They finally found a new place for themselves and will be out of his parent's place on Monday. I am really happy for her. They are also paying a shit ton less than us so bite me sis. Love ya.

Yesterday was a day of work and organizing. Sorry, got distracted while typing. Had a conference call in the morning with a client in OK. Looks like I will be traveling back out there in December. I am trying to fill my last two open weeks with trips. One to OK and one to TX as the Bahamas gig isn't moving forward until January as I mentioned. I was on the phone with them for over 90 minutes and it was a really productive call for everyone. I do enjoy my job when I hear the excitement in a new user's voice when they have made something work.

FUCK. Thank god for autosave. I was installing something in the background while I was working on this and it decided it needed to close all my browser windows so it could do some bullshit stealth thing. I fucking hate apps that try to hijack browsers. Fuckers. Your application has now been deleted. Fuck off.

Back to yesterday, got off the phone and did some more catching up on work. Afterwards, B decided she wanted to put the tree up since I will be gone so much. Okay, I am cool with that as I already had about 10 presents to go under the tree for her and the kid. We spent a couple of hours taking care of all that, watched a little TV and then took a nap. I slept from 1:30 until 3, her until 5. We went and grabbed mexican for dinner, caught up a little more, then I went in here to finish the laptop migration (still needed office and now it is done), timesheets, and expense reports. All done. Now I have nothing to do today which is awesome. I do have to run to the store and get some cat food, but I can probably have that done before she even wakes up.

I then dove into organizing media files. Whenever I am gone like I was, things back up. I organized over 300 files last night and have 1200 left to go. But while I am gone next week, she has plenty to watch now. That took me until almost 1am. But I feel so much better. I am going to try to get through another big chunk of that 1200 today. Then I get to go to bed at 8 so I can be up at 1:30. So much fun.

Is this year over yet?

Y6 D173

Slept pretty well last night, always sleep better in my own bed. Well that's a load of shit, but it sounds nice, right? I did sleep well last night but I think it's just because I pushed myself to the point where I was going to sleep no matter what.

We left the hotel at 4:44 exactly. Traffic wasn't bad but a little heavier than normal given that it was a Wednesday. We rolled into town around 10, picked up B's Harry Potter poster from FedEx, and started unpacking. Laundry was started. Things were put away. I caught up on email and bills. Whee. We then went to the grocery store so B could have food while I am gone next week and so we have something to eat before I leave.

I also worked on getting the new laptop setup. I think I am almost done except for Office. But for that I need to find my install disc. And funny enough, I just found it. While I was typing that I was thinking about where it would be and checked. Voila. So now the new machine will be all setup. NOW the only missing is fucking Diablo. I wish Blizzard would respond to my email. I just want my damn account back. I didn't ask to change my password, they forced me to do it. And who the fuck can read captchas??

Sigh. Pisses me off. B and I had fish burritos for dinner and started catching up on shows. We watched 3 episodes of Criminal Minds. While we were watching the first one, we looked up potential flights for B to take in December to go back and see her family. We found one that isn't a big deal point or time wise, but for some reason that made her sad. I think I know why; it's because she won't have a whole lot of spending money to take with her while she is there. Not working has finally really hit her hard. While she has enjoyed it, it's been hard having to be as reliant on me as she is. I am sure the lack of self-sufficiency has bothered her even if she didn't realize it. Last night it came to the surface.

We also started putting together wishlists for Christmas on different sites. As of right now, I should have $480 for my Amazon budget this year. I am going to split it up $175 for each of us and the remainder for the kid. I think that's a fair split. That way we use cash for any other gifts we need to buy for people.

She ended up going to bed around 10 while I stayed up. I was hoping blizzard would respond but no such luck. I went to bed around 11:30.

Today I have a 9am conference call with a client in OK which may turn into me going out there in December. Bahamas has been officially moved to January. Not really complaining to be honest. I can start the year off with a 7000 mile flight and 13 days of hotel stay. Not bad. I would rather have that in 2015. Get a nice chunk of status out of the way in the first month. I wish I had that kind of mileage every month. That would bump me to the highest level like nothing.

Time to get prepped.

Getting ready to go home, not a lot of time to type.

Yesterday was okay. We had some issue in the morning - we had a 9am breakfast reservation and when we went to the parking lot it was still closed at 8:15. Huh? We put the car back at the hotel and decided to walk since we had plenty of time. Halfway I realized this time *I* forgot my pass. Oops. Had to run back to the car and with my leg, run is yeah no. Anyway we were about 10 minutes late, sweaty, and stressed out.

Breakfast was good. Rapunzel, Tiana, Cindy, and Belle were our princesses. We then saw Baymax!! YAY! He was awesome and he blinked! So cool.

I was having leg issues and we came back to the hotel around 2 and collapsed. We went for dinner around 7 and went to Bubba Gump because it was close and neither of us felt like going far. B really enjoyed it.

Came back, packed, and went to bed. Now we go home.

Y6 D171

I have been up for a while but am moving kind of slow right now. Also I am typing this on my new laptop. Yes, I finally got a new one after five years, but not by choice really, more by necessity. My old one yesterday morning blew another screw and this time some smoke came from the battery. I immediately pinged my boss and got approval for a new one. It was not an option any more. Here's the basic specs:

15-inch: 2.5GHz
with Retina display

Specifications

  • 2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
  • Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz
  • 16GB 1600MHz memory
  • 512GB PCIe-based flash storage
  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics
  • NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB GDDR5 memory
Not too bad eh? Just over $3000 with tax and 3 years apple care warranty. This should last me a while. Here's how the morning went; pinged my boss, waited for responses as we went over options, had breakfast, placed the order, then headed to the mall with the apple store. By the time we got there it was around 11:30 and again because of the holiday, it was packed. Took almost 40 minutes to get a laptop that was already done and paid for which was a pain. By the time it was over, we managed to look in a couple of stores, but B was getting a migraine. Back to the hotel we went. She immediately crawled into bed and close the curtains. Thank goodness for black out curtains. I went to work on setting this thing up. I am not done yet, but it had a ton of updates to do including Yosemite. On the hotel's network it took forever. But I managed to get the basics installed, mail configured, and obviously chrome setup as I am typing this on it. I am going through app by app to see what I really need and don't need to be honest. I don't think I need to migrate everything over since that thing is 5 years old.

When B woke up around 6, she was feeling better. We headed back to the mall because she wanted to get something she saw earlier but didn't have the energy to look at. We went to Wet Seal, Ruby's Diner for dinner, CVS, and then right back here. Even that was overwhelming for her.

We came back and relaxed. I bought hair dye at CVS and we did my hair. That was our big evening. While we are both happy to be at the park, we are also just enjoying doing nothing. It's been a while since we had just a relaxing time. I lost last Saturday to travel and I am losing this Sunday to travel so, screw it. I need some time for me.

Today is Princess Breakfast. I am really hoping the park has calmed down.
