Y6 D267

So guess what? I am writing this from home. Not because we got up ridiculously early or anything. We actually came home last night. Not because we had any problems either. Nope. We were just being practical. The issue with Monterey is that it far enough way that it is a vacation and can warrant an overnight stay, but is also close enough that with the right planning, it can be a day trip. Because of the latter, we said screw it and came home. Here's how the day went.

We got up around 6:30 and while I didn't try to wake B up that early, her cold was driving her nuts and she got up to take medicine. Once up though, it's so hard to go back to sleep, especially when it would have only been for an hour or so. Instead we both were up and ready so we headed down to breakfast.

After breakfast we called our cab guy. The night before we found the best cab guy and got his card. He ended up being our personal driver basically three times yesterday. It was nice having someone who was fun, clean, spoke well, and knew the area. He picked us up around 8:40 and we got to the aquarium about 10 to 9. We decided to become members as the price difference wasn't that much and when you add in the 10% we saved on stuff, if just one of us comes back one more time, it's paid for itself. It's also one of those places where I don't mind spending the money as it goes to a really good cause.

We got in and WOW. We had such a great time. The Jellyfish exhibit is incredible as is the "Tentacles" exhibit. Squids, cuttlefish, and all the Krakens you can imagine. At 10:30 we got to see the penguins being fed! That was so cool. It also made us hungry. We decided to eat at the waterfront cafe and had an incredible lunch. After lunch we wandered around for about another hour. We then went to this tasting room our neighbor recommended. Good call. He is friends with the owner who comped my tasting and gave me an extra bottle of wine for the two I bought. I also had a great cheese plate. At 3 we decided to head back to the hotel for some relaxation before dinner. B slept for a couple of hours while I watched some TV. I watched Last Week Tonight and started watching Archer.  At 7 we headed to Bubba Gumps. You know how recently I signed up for Landry's Select Club? Well that paid off in spades last night. At a Landry's, I have priority seating. There was a 30 minute wait for everyone else. Not us. We got seated immediately and ended up at a 6 person table as a result.

Dinner was fun, we both ate way too much, but it was a good time. We got back to the hotel around 9, full, a little tired, and happy. That's when we were like, you know, I am not that tired. We could just go home early. Okay. Fuck it. Why not. We left around 9:30 and rolled into the house at 11:26. We unpacked, took care of the kitties, started laundry, got prepped for today, and went to bed around 1. Was nice sleeping in our own bed. Especially since in 20 hours I leave for Denver. Otherwise we would probably not be home until noon today. Gave ourselves an extra 12 hours at home to get things done. Realistically we gained about 6 or 7 hours, but I will take them. I started realizing last night, I don't have proper clothes for this trip. It will be as low as 9 when I am there and snowing. I am not prepared for that. We need to hit Target or something today to get me a couple of things.

Right now B is still asleep but I have already checked in for my flight and hotel and am glad we came home. We both agree it was a wonderful weekend that we both really needed. All in all, good times were had.

Now to leave for 8 days. Whee.
