We had another incredible day. One of the best anniversaries I have ever had to be honest. We started the day with a nice breakfast downstairs, then we did more walking. This time we focused on all the art and one specific area of town. We saw some incredible artwork, had a fun lunch, and got back to the hotel around 3. But let me tell you about the piece of art we bought. Yes, much of the art here is for sale. We went into what's called the Artist's Clubhouse. This is where all the artists hang out, have some cool displays, larger exhibits with media that can't be outside, stuff like that. There was an exhibit called Light in the Dark. It was a Ukrainian exhibit of photographers who had captured life around them during the time the Russians had knocked out all the power plants in Kiev. They wanted to show that beauty and life still exists in the dark. There was one piece in particular that stood out for both of us and we just loved. I asked the curator if any of the work was for sale because normally they have QR codes next to pieces that are for sale. She told me yes, she just didn't want to mess up the installation with QR codes. Cool. How much for X. She looked shocked and then told me that is HER piece and one of her favorites. She was the actually artist from Ukraine!! How cool! The piece was within our price range and I told her we wanted it. So when Art Prize is over, we will be the proud owners of a signed piece of history in my mind. Something taken during a war, with an incredible touching human story behind it. This is the piece:
After that we found ourselves at a perfumery. We ended up making our own perfumes!! So much fun! Back at the hotel we rested until dinner, then walked to the restaurant. We had down south comfort food of fried chicken. But fancy fried chicken. Bee pollen dusted and damn good. After dinner we rented electric scooters and rode all over town. We rode to where there is a condo for sale to check out the area and building. We liked it but it's just a little over our price range. But it gave us an idea of what areas we like and could live. The scooters are by the hour so we wrapped up at 50 minutes and went back to the hotel. After sitting for a few we said fuck it, let's do that again! We did another 45 minute scooter ride around town. If we live here, we are buying our own. It was a blast.
One of the things we both loved is not at any point did we feel unsafe, out of place, in danger, unwanted. We felt like we belonged and fit in everywhere. Such a nice feeling. We're heading home today. When we get there, we get there. Check out is noon so we have about 4 hours to figure things out. I am sad we are leaving but I know we will be back, most likely permanently.
