Okay apparently sometimes I can catch a break. Took a little bit of fast talking, committing to stick around for a while, and basically sucking up, but I have a new computer. And not just any computer - a 27" shiny new iMac. It's sooooo big and shiny! I haven't plugged it in yet, but jeez it is just sitting here on my desk looking so big. How did this come to be you ask? Well let me tell you...
Was doing my training yesterday, which went okay; I was having some technical issues trying to do it with just one machine as my primary and an old laptop as my backup. Made for some glitches, but I managed to get through them. I think the students were all happy. Went pretty much right to the money on time. But anyway, I digress. I was training when my boss called me to ask me about my computer situation. I explained to him that in the nine years (on and off obviously) I have been with the company I have never once asked for a computer. He was like 'really?' on that. I had him stop and think about it and he realized that it was true. He then realized that I have been using my laptop for 50% work and my desktop for 50% work. Thanks to him simply realizing this, he got the point that the company should help with a new computer. Note the word help. I was okay with this. I was still stressing about even paying half of it, but half was a better solution than all. But as we talked more he also decided that since I did just help get a new employee hired who is doing great and we both foresee doing great in the future, that screw it, the other half can be my bonus for him. Score. I told him how much a new one was going to be ($1800 + tax) and he said fine, but get the extended warranty and promise you won't quit until the warranty expires. Deal. $2200 later it was ordered. After class I went and picked it up. Nice feeling walking into the Apple store and going pickup please and they come out with this giant box. I got the superdrive add on as well because I do burn discs for clients and for personal use. After picking it up I met a friend at happy hour. Hung out with her and her co-workers (who know me as they are one of our clients) until about 6:30 or so. We then went back over to the mall to look at a couple of things. She had planned on taking the train but I would hear none of that. I drove her home. Got home myself around 10. Hence why I didn't setup the new machine. I was tired, happy, and in no condition to give it my full attention. KBF's birthday was yesterday and I also was being nice by staying out of their way. They were watching all six hours of Lawrence of Arabia. I ate my taco bell that I had picked up on the way home and went to bed.
I talked with B throughout all of that yesterday. She had a mom/daughter morning yesterday. She had bought her mom a gift card for a nail place back in May for Mother's day and they finally got around to using it. All is good. She is getting super excited about coming out here as am I. We are down to a few weeks until she is here.
And then my life it changed...
