It's funny how your perspective can change on something with just a little bit of knowledge. When I first watched the show The Magicians, it was a special preview of episode 1 before they started their regular airing. I thought the show was great and it got me real excited to read the books. In between the time the first episode aired and last night's second episode, I read all three books. After watching last night's episode it was a lot of what the fuck happening. They have deviated so far from the books that it makes no sense. It bears but a passing resemblance to the source material and both B (who also has read the three books) and I spent the 45 minutes trying to figure out who these people were, where they were taking the story, and just what the hell was going on. If you've never read the books, give the show a chance. If you have, well, prepare to scratch your head a lot.
I got screwed over by my company yet again yesterday. Once more my boss fucked me and my co-worker by not submitting our bonus numbers soon enough to get on the pay period. It's the fourth time we've done a bonus check yet we still don't seem to have a procedure in place. While I am sure they don't mean this, the message coming across is we are not important. That paying us for our hard work is secondary. To add insult to injury, instead of apologizing for the fuck up, we get an email chastising us both for not having enough student evals filled in. It's enough to make me consider finding local employment. Somewhere with a real HR department and payroll group that doesn't fuck things like this up on a regular basis. Let's see if we get any resolve on the issue today.
My class was straight forward. I had three students, all of them returns from previous classes, and two of them local. We ended up taking an hour and 20 minute lunch and still finishing at 2. I have six students today, but three of them are repeats from yesterday. I don't expect this class to go long either.
After class I went over to the store and got something we have wanted for a while - blackout curtains for the bedroom. B tried to nap yesterday but the sun was blazing through the windows. I picked up some nice shades which should also help with our heating and cooling bill.
When I got back, I checked the mail and our Costco cards finally arrived. B was fighting a migraine all day but we both figured getting out of the house might help. Before we left I hung the new curtains. We then went over to our local Costco and wandered around. We intentionally didn't grab a basket so we weren't tempted to buy things we didn't need. In the end we bought some snacks and that was about it.
Got back and I made a pork roast. We watched some TV (above mentioned magicians and the premiere of Lucifer which I really liked). I went off to bed around 11 and B shortly thereafter. Tomorrow we are going to the Oregon Museum of Space and Industry for OMSI after dark which is when they open just for adults. The theme will be superheroes. We are both excited about this. So Thursday's post should be exciting. Tonight nothing planned so a basic day is in the works.
Now let's see if my boss gets his shit together today and offers us a solution other than wait until February.
